Preparation Process Of Coal-Based Activated Carbon


Coal-based activated carbon is made of specific coal or blended coal as raw materials, through carbonization and activation, and it is a carbon absorbent material with developed pore structure, good chemical stability and mechanical strength. Preparation process includes: Coal preparation – briquetting – carbonization – activation – finished product processing.

Raw Material Crushing: The big size raw coal will be crushed to qualified size, then the crushed coal will be sent to the coal grinding mill.

Coal Grinding: In order to guarantee the quality of pelleting, the requirements of the grinding process should be to grind the raw coal as fine as possible under the industrial conditions, so that the raw material can be made uniform, and the outer surface area of the coal powder can be increased. During kneading, chemical agglomeration occurs at the interface of water and adhesive, which is easy to shape and improve product strength.

Forming Process:The raw coal powder used for the production of briquette activated carbon is crushed after being pressed into blocks, and then sent to the carbonization process for carbonization; The coal powder used to produce columnar activated carbon are kneaded evenly with water, adhesive and then extruded into strips, then air-dried and sent to the carbonization process.

Carbonization Process: Carbonization process includes two parts: carbonization of molding material and treatment of carbonization tail gas.The essence of carbonization is the process of low temperature distillation of coal.

Activation Process: Depending on the raw materials, different activation processes should be used..It includes gas activation, chemical activation and chemical physical activation.

Finished Product Processing: According to the needs of the market, adjust the particle size distribution, ash content, PH value, etc. of activated carbon products, or improve its chemical and physical properties by impregnating or loading chemicals, as well as the recovery of the undersize material obtained by sieving granular products. It includes pickling, crushing, grinding, sieving etc.
